The Lure & Lore of Deserts
“The Lure and Lore of Deserts” are about discovering what lured — and what continues to lure — humans to six of the deserts in the world. Three are in the Middle East and three are in North America. It’s said the desert is where God first talked with man, and the deserts of Egypt, Israel and Jordan are filled with sacred stories. While the magnitude of sands has done their part to obscure the tales, you will shift through the past and present and uncover those stories.
In Egypt you leave Cairo to head into the Western Desert to see still undetermined ancient carvings on your way to Fayoum, Kharga and Dkakia Oasis. The wealth of American deserts also speaks of those lured throughout the centuries. And while millions of tourists visit well-known sites of the Sonoran, Mohave and Chihuahuan Deserts, the lore and legends of the little known sites have surprising stories waiting to be explored. In Western New Mexico’s Chicahancan Desert is a little known area called the Three River Petroglyths site. You will hike over 21,000 glyphs birds, humans, animals, fish insects and plants chipped out of the rock at least thousands of years ago.
